Apple MacBook Pro 14’’ with M2 Pro 12-core

Here's our take on the 14" MacBook Pro:

  • Processor: Powered by Apple's cutting-edge M2 Pro chip with 12 cores, the MacBook Pro delivers exceptional performance, enabling seamless multitasking and smooth application handling.

  • Battery Life: The MacBook Pro 14" M2 offers impressive battery life of up to 18 hours, allowing you to work or enjoy multimedia content for up to X hours on a single charge. This is thanks to the powerful and efficient M2 Pro chip.

  • RAM: The MacBook Pro 14" has 16GB, ensuring efficient performance and handling resource-intensive tasks effortlessly.

  • GPU: The integrated graphics on the M2 Pro chip provide stunning visuals for content creation and multimedia consumption.

  • OS: The MacBook Pro 14" M2 runs on macOS, known for its user-friendly interface, seamless integration with other Apple devices, and a wide range of productivity and creative applications. The OS runs super smooth thanks to Apple Silicone.

  • Storage: Apple offers above the basic 256GB storage including a 512GB (10-core M2 Pro model) OR 1TB SSD option, this gives ample space to store your files, media, and applications. It also has an SD card slot for those who might need it (if you’re a shutterbug then you’re in luck).

  • Screen: The MacBook Pro features a vibrant Retina display with 3024x1960 resolution and 1,000 nits of brightness (1,600 at peak). It offers excellent colour accuracy, sharpness, and wide viewing angles all housed in an optimally sized 14" screen. We preferred this screen size over the smaller 13" and the bigger 16". It's just right!

What We Didn't Like

What we didn’t like simply is that the laptop is heavy. Even for such a small device, it's 1.6 kilograms. That can only be explained by Apple's durable aluminum alloy chassis. Asking for anything less is asking for poorer quality materials and possibly a weaker chassis. Another thing that we personally don’t like about Apple is their lack of direct compatibility with almost all the big brand games. Yes, this can be overcome by using Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit, parallels, VMware, or Bootcamp. But that’s a hassle. Also, another issue we hate is the dongle issue for USB-A devices. Sometimes we just happen to have a USB-A device or cable or SSD… we are not throwing them out just because we bought a MacBook. Why not include one in the box… at least one.

Apple MacBook Air M2

Here's our take on the MacBook Air M2:

  • Battery Life: The MacBook Air M2 offers impressive battery life, approximately 18 hours on a single charge, allowing you to work or enjoy multimedia content.

  • Processor: Powered by Apple's M2 chip with 8 cores, the MacBook Air delivers swift and efficient performance for everyday tasks and applications.

  • RAM: With 8GB of unified RAM, the MacBook Air ensures smooth multitasking and responsive performance.

  • GPU: The integrated graphics on the M2 chip provide enhanced visuals for casual gaming and multimedia consumption. No, not for heavy games, basic Appstore games.

  • OS: The MacBook Air M2 runs on macOS, offering a seamless user experience with intuitive navigation and a wide range of productivity tools.

  • Storage: Choose from storage options, including 256GB or 512GB SSDs, providing sufficient space for your files and applications.

  • Screen: The MacBook Air features a stunning 2560-by-1664, 224 pixels per-inch Liquid Retina display which features over 500 nits of brightness, P3 wide colour and support for 1 billion colours for vibrant images and incredible detail.

What We Didn't Like

While this laptop isn’t heavy (it's super light) it still has some things that bother me. The MacBook Air lacks enough ports. Only 2 Thunderbolt ports. Also, once again, we hate the dongle issue for USB-A devices. Sometimes we just happen to have a USB-A device or cable or SSD… we are not throwing them out just because we bought a MacBook. Why not include one in the box… at least one.

What We Didn't Like

Honestly, there’s nothing not to like about the XPS 15. It’s a pretty good laptop and has excellent performance. The NVIDIA 3050Ti is pretty good, however, it could be better. It can handle big games pretty well but the GTX 3060 outperforms. Unfortunately, the XPS 15 is not available with the GTX 3060. Thermal management can also be better as the Intel i7 processor can overheat. A solution to this is to get a laptop cooling pad or cooling pad. Another issue we don’t like is the poor 720p front camera. Apple is quite better here offering a 1080p camera. All in all, though, riding through these issues the XPS 15 is pretty good!

What We Didn't Like

Two things we did not like. Thing one is that the dual-screen aspect can be a double-bladed sword. Innovative, yes. Charismatic, also yes. However, it also can be distracting, slow, and confusing to use. Thing two that we really need to give Asus a rap on the knuckles for is the keyboard. Terrible. It is slightly awkward in terms of its positioning. If you're into a laptop because of its keyboard that's when you might cross the Zenbook Pro Duo off your list. Especially when comparing it with the MacBook Pro and Air (essentially Apple laptops in their entirety).

These five laptops represent the cream of the crop in 2023, each offering a unique set of features and capabilities. From the power-packed MacBook Pro and MacBook Air to the versatile Dell XPS 15, the gaming prowess of the Razer Blade 14, and the innovative Asus ZenBook Pro Duo, there's a laptop to suit every need and preference. Whether you prioritize performance, portability, or creativity, these laptops will elevate your computing experience to new heights. Choose the one that aligns with your requirements and witness the seamless integration of power, style, and functionality.
